Dairy-free frozen desserts

We used to have very popular staff tastings of various fabulous brands of dairy-free ice-cream and yoghurt, when we had a little shop in Leicestershire. Now that we’re mail-order only, we can’t send ice-cream out to customers – but we can show you how to make some very simple, and equally delicious, dairy-free frozen desserts at home.

Soya and coconut cream dairy-free desserts.

Make your own dairy-free frozen desserts.

Here are two easily adaptable recipes: for soya milk ice pops and chocolate coconut-cream ice-cream.

Soya milk ice pops

Ingredients

1/2 pt soya milk

350ml fruit puree (make your own, or see our range here)

Method

Take the receptacle in which you’re going to make your ice pops and put spoonfuls of fruit puree at the bottom. Top these off with soya milk and insert the lolly sticks. Freeze until firm. (You could also, if you wished, mix in the fruit puree with the soya milk).

For a creamier texture, simply freeze, in an ice-pop receptacle, one of our delicious soya desserts, which we have in vanilla, caramel and chocolate flavours. Just like frozen yoghurt!

Chocolate coconut-cream ice-cream

Ingredients

1 tin coconut milk (to make it extra chocolate-y, you could of course use chocolate coconut milk)

3 tbsp cocoa powder

2 tbsp honey or maple syrup

1 tsp vanilla extract

Method

Simply combine all the ingredients in a blender until smooth and creamy, then freeze!

Until you’ve tried this, you’ll have no idea how delicious frozen coconut cream can be. This really is a dessert for everyone – not just those on dairy-free diets.
