We’re famous at Naturally Good Food for our perfect chewy flapjack recipe. It’s a good, solid, reliable, basic flapjack recipe. It takes about ten minutes to prepare and ten minutes to cook – and can be easily made in bulk. It’s designed for people who need a satisfying, healthy snack, but who don’t have the time or enthusiasm to fiddle around with their baking. It won’t win the Great British Bake-Off any time soon.
But…this other flapjack just might! This flapjack scales new heights. This is the kind of flapjack you might like to make if you had two hours in a tent, all your ingredients to hand, and no washing up to do at the end. It’s the Naturally Good Food Ultimate Luxury Showstopper Flapjack. On your marks, get set….bake!
No messing around here. You need the very best of everything.
150g butter, unsalted (not margarine)
2 tbsp golden syrup
250g porridge oats (organic – they are unbelievably soft and creamy).
125g golden caster sugar
100g condensed milk
Pinch of salt
Spoonful chopped apricots
Spoonful chopped dates
Spoonful chopped Brazil nuts
Spoonful chopped hazelnuts
Spoonful sunflower seeds
Spoonful pumpkin seeds
Grease a baking tray. Melt the butter, golden syrup and sugar together, then add the condensed milk. Mix with the oats, the pinch of salt and the chopped fruit, nuts and seeds. Bake in a preheated oven at about 180C, for about 20 minutes. Mark into portions, but leave in the tray to cool completely. When cool, melt the cooking chocolate and drizzle over the top of the flapjacks. When set, remove from the tin and serve.
