We’ve got some great ideas, recipes and tips for hosting a New Year’s buffet. You may be the host, but you’ll want to enjoy yourself just as much as your guests – so make things easy for yourself with our crowd-pleasing, simple recipes and ideas.
Be prepared! Forward planning makes it easy
You don’t want to be running round like a headless chicken as your guests arrive. You need food and drink that you can prepare in advance and get out on the table (or keep warm on the stove) before the party actually starts. Everyone’s house is different, of course – as are everyone’s guests. So work out where you want people to congregate and where you want them to avoid. Should you serve finger food – or food you need a fork and plate to eat? Do you have enough glasses, crockery and cutlery? Are you worried about people dropping food? Does it need to be warm food – or is cold OK?
Easy crowd-pleasing dishes
We’ve got a range of recipes that should fit the bill for all kinds of parties. Some are good, hearty food, for which you’ll definitely need a proper plate or bowl. Others are for nibbling – wrapped in napkins. How about a big bowl of….
- Macaroni cheese
- Chilli with rice
- Homemade tikka masala with rice
- Dauphinoise potatoes with shredded meat or vegetables
- Festive Christmas soup
- Rice salad with nuts and seeds (try flaked almonds and pumpkin seeds)
For nibbles, we don’t think you can beat….
- Wholefood party dips (with our crackers)
- Homemade garlic bread
- Homemade mini pizzas
- Homemade sausage rolls
- Stuffed Yorkshire puddings: both savoury and sweet!
And for dessert? We’d keep it simple. Who can resist….
New Year’s buffet drinks
We don’t sell alcoholic drinks at Naturally Good Food, so we’ll leave that side of things to you! But you’ll no doubt need some non-alcoholic drinks too, and for this, we’d recommend wholeheartedly our Mulled berry punch and Norfolk punch. You can warm these up with spices and citrus fruit, just like mulled wine, or serve cold. We’ve also got our wonderfully warming Rochester ginger drinks – perfect for this time of year.
